The Director General of DC/BR meets with the Professional Association of Management and Intermediation Companies of UEMOA

Abidjan, February 26, 2024 – The Director General of the Central Depository/Settlement Bank (DC/BR) of UEMOA, Mr. Birahim Diouf, met on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in Abidjan, with the Professional Association of Management and Financial Intermediation Companies of UEMOA (APSGI/UEMOA).  

This meeting took place during a visit by the Director General of DC/BR to the new headquarters of APSGI, located in Riviera Cocody, in the eastern part of Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d'Ivoire.  

During the discussions, Mr. Birahim Diouf and the President of APSGI/UEMOA, Mrs. Roselyne Abé, reviewed topics of common interest, opportunities, and challenges within the Regional Financial Market.  

The meeting, held in the presence of the association's Executive Director, Mr. Soualiou Fadiga, focused on strengthening market participants' capacities, the project of client-level account registration, reducing the settlement cycle, securities lending and borrowing, and the upcoming APSGI Trade Fair.  

Welcoming the visit of the DC/BR Director General to APSGI's offices, Mrs. Abé emphasized the essential role of DC/BR in the Regional Financial Market ecosystem since the start of its operations in 1998.  

"We welcome this courtesy visit from the Director General of DC/BR, which allowed us to review our sector and outline positive prospects for the Regional Financial Market," said APSGI President, Mrs. Roselyne Abé.  

"Management and Intermediation Companies (SGI) play a crucial role in the Regional Financial Market. It was therefore appropriate to visit their representative body, APSGI, which is led by the dynamic President, Mrs. Roselyne Abé," added Mr. Birahim Diouf, Director General of DC/BR.  

"We took this opportunity to review the challenges of our Market and outline some potential solutions," concluded Mr. Diouf. Both parties agreed to meet regularly to deepen discussions on the sector's challenges and contribute to the development of the Regional Financial Market.  

ABOUT DC/BR  

DC/BR is the Central Securities Depository of UEMOA, headquartered in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. It ensures the centralization of securities custody for its members, the successful completion of settlement/delivery operations following stock market transactions, and the payment of corporate actions.  

As a full member of the Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA), it is responsible for securities numbering in UEMOA. DC/BR was established in 1996 and officially commenced operations on September 16, 1998.

The Professional Association of Management and Intermediation Companies of UEMOA (APSGI-UEMOA), created on December 3, 1998, is the representative body of SGIs from the eight UEMOA countries. It currently comprises 35 SGIs.
